Topics in this guide

Getting started

Where can I download Tamga Wallet?

From the App Store and Google Play. The store buttons on this site open the right app's page: Download the app.

Which phones does it work on?

Android 9 or later; on iPhone, devices with Secure Enclave (iOS 16.4+). A screen lock must be set on the phone.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Tamga Wallet has no accounts or passwords; your documents are on your phone. You open the wallet with a 6-digit PIN: Set up your wallet.

Which languages does it support?

English and Turkish. The app follows your phone's language; you can change it in Settings → Language.

I forgot my PIN. What should I do?

Tamga does not know your PIN and cannot recover it. If Face ID / Touch ID is on, open the wallet with it; if not, set the wallet up again: I forgot my PIN.

Documents

Which institutions issue documents?

Institutions that join Tamga Network. They appear in the app's institution list, and the list grows as institutions join.

Does driving licence information replace my official driving licence?

No. Driving licence information carries the categories and validity dates on your card; for things like car rental you show only what is needed instead of sending a photo of the card. It is not an official driving licence and is not valid in traffic checks or official procedures.

Can I prove my age without showing my date of birth?

If a website asks only for “Over 18”, only that yes/no answer leaves your identity credential; your date of birth does not. With a zero-knowledge proof your date of birth, your name and the credential itself are not shown either; if your phone cannot create the proof, still only that yes/no field is sent. Details: Prove your age.

How do I show a document in person?

The other person scans a result QR code with their own phone camera (Get checked), or a reader device connects over Bluetooth; you see what is requested and approve. Your phone's NFC is not used: Show in person.

Why can't I take screenshots?

Screenshots are blocked on purpose on sensitive screens such as document details, QR and approval, so that copies of your document do not circulate: Screenshot protection.

My document says “Not verified”. What does that mean?

The wallet could not check its revocation status in the last 24 hours (usually there was no internet). You can still show it; it is checked by itself once you are online: Credential status.

Privacy and security

Is this a government wallet?

No. Tamga Wallet is an EU-aligned wallet and the first wallet of Tamga Network; it is not a national identity wallet and is not affiliated with any government.

Where are my documents stored?

On your phone, encrypted. Tamga keeps no copy of your documents. Details in the privacy policy.

Where do notifications come from?

They are created only on your phone: the wallet notices by itself that a document was revoked or is about to expire. Nothing is sent from a server, and the lock screen shows no document or institution name.

I lost my phone. What should I do?

Close your wallet with the revocation code shown during setup: I lost my phone.

How do I delete my data?

In the app: Settings → Reset wallet. If you no longer have the app: Delete my data. For data held by an organisation you showed information to: Ask for deletion.

For institutions

How can my institution issue documents to Tamga Wallet?

By joining Tamga Network. An institution in the network can issue to Tamga Wallet and to any wallet that follows the network's rules: tamga.network. To try it first: Try your institution in the Sandbox.
