Tamga Wallet

European alignment

Tamga Wallet is built on the open standards the European Union set for its digital identity wallets (EUDI Wallet). This page explains what we implement and what is not there yet.

What is the EUDI Wallet?

With the eIDAS 2.0 regulation, the EU requires every member state to offer its citizens a European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet). These wallets carry documents such as identity, diplomas and driving licences on the phone and share only what is asked. They all use the same open standards, so a document issued in one country can be verified in another.

Tamga Wallet uses these standards: the document formats, the protocols for receiving and showing, the security profile and the in-person path are the same as in EU wallets.

Selective disclosure and privacy

  • If a site asks one thing about a document, only that answer is sent; the rest stays on your phone.
  • When your age is asked, only “over 18” is proven; with a zero-knowledge proof neither your date of birth nor the credential itself is shown.
  • Every site and institution gets a separate copy and a separate pseudonym; institutions cannot combine what you showed them to track you.
  • What you showed to whom is recorded only on your phone.

Two networks, one wallet

Tamga Wallet is designed to work in two settings: the EU's digital identity infrastructure and Tamga Network, the trust network built for the Turkic world. Tamga Network uses the same standards; institutions that join it issue their documents in a form EU wallets understand. Tamga Wallet is Tamga Network's first wallet, but it is not part of the network and has no special position in it: the network does not run wallets; it recognises every wallet that follows its rules through its trusted list. Tamga Wallet and its wallet provider service are run by the organisation that operates the wallet.

Not there yet

  • Official status: Tamga Wallet is not an official EUDI Wallet of an EU member state. That status requires a member state to recognise and certify the wallet; if Türkiye regulates and recognises such wallets, we will enter that process.
  • EU trust lists: today the wallet reads Tamga Network's trust lists. Reading the trust lists of the EU and its member states comes later.
  • Showing from the browser: letting a site on the same phone call the wallet directly through the Digital Credentials API is planned; today sites ask by QR code or link (OpenID4VP).
  • Interoperability tests: alignment is shown through tests with the EU's reference verifiers; we will publish the results on this page.
Tamga Wallet is an independent, EU-aligned wallet; it has no connection with any government body.
